European Days kicks off nationwide on Saturday


Thirty lacquer paintings exhibited at Hanoi-based Goethe Institute on Saturday will open the ‘Europe Days’ to be held in Hanoi, HCMC and Can Tho this month.

‘Dipolar’ will feature lacquer works made over the past five years by Khai Doan, a Vietnamese-German creative director in the advertising industry and will last until June 5.

Sea Festival in tribute to Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands


Many activities will be targeted towards Truong Sa Islands, including a photograph exhibition, a seminar on Truong Sa, art performances and using coffee beans to make a map of Truong Sa.

Southern Land Food Festival 2011


The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with the representative agency of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in HCM City, the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, and Phu Tho Tourist Service Limited Company to organize the Southern Land Food Festival at Dam Sen Cultural Park from May 27 to 29, 2011.

US ballroom dance group tours


The highly acclaimed Ballroom Dance Company from the US's Brigham Young University will make their first appearance in Viet Nam on Friday, May 13th 2011. 

Founded in 1971, the Utah-based ensemble is the US National Formation Dance Champion, a title the team has won 27 consecutive times since 1982.

Culture and Tourism Week scheduled next month in Quang Binh


A series of cultural and sporting events will greet tourists during Culture and Tourism Week 2011 beginning on June 5 in the central province of Quang Binh. 

The week aims at promoting the province's many tourist attractions, including its numerous outstanding caves, as well as attracting investment to the province, Le Hung Phi, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, told Viet Nam News.

Giong Festival at Phu Dong Temple


The Giong Festival of Phu Dong and Soc temples which has officially been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by the UNESCO since November 2010, is held annually from the seventh to the ninth days of the fourth lunar month in order to commemorate the mythical hero Saint Giong at Phu Dong temple in Gia Lam District (his birth place) and from the sixth to the eighth days of the first lunar month at Soc Temple in Soc Son District (his ascending place to heaven).
